One of the best ways of relaxing after a hectic and stress-filled day at work is soaking in the steaming waters of a hot tub and having a hydro-massage. It eases wound up muscles and even improves breathing. That is, of course, if the hot tub is free from bacteria and other microorganisms that can actually infect you with all sorts of illnesses.

It is for this reason that maintaining a hot tub, or a home spa, requires you to continually buy hot tub chemicals to keep it clean and germ-free. Plenty of organisms flourish in wet and warm environments making it imperative that a regular disinfecting routine should be established. This, of course, is in addition to the use of micro-meter range particulate filters.

The primary chemicals used for hot tub sanitation are chlorine, bromine, and mineral systems. These are supplemented by ozone generators, ultraviolet sterilization, and silver or copper ion generators. Periodically, the hot tub should also be treated with potassium monopersulfate to rid it with stubborn organisms. This is called “shocking” the hot tub. It can also be done with a big dose of granulated chlorine.

Keeping your hot tub clean and germ-free should not be neglected. Your and your family’s health could be otherwise be severely affected.
